Screen Door Music Festival

Five days, 18 events, 29 musicians

Aug 11, 2017
Cynthia Miller Freivogel will explore the historical environment of Bach’s great solo violin music during Screen Door Music Festival’s Bach for Breakfast lecture/performances.

Bay Chamber Concerts’ Screen Door Music festival runs Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 16 through 20, at locations in Rockport and Camden. Screen Door not only delivers a Bach, Beethoven and Brahms fix, but also offers novel creative happenings that are summer fun for audience and artists alike.

The festival options, some of which are free, mix percussion groups, bowed instruments, guitars and electronics with projected visual art, physical performers and harpsichord and theorbo players, capping the fest by pairing Baroque and recently written chamber operas.

Every Screen Door morning begins with Bach for Breakfast lecture/performances, preceded by coffee and muffins. Concerts large and small are scheduled during the evenings and some afternoons for locations in Rockport village — Rockport Opera House; Union Hall; Pascal Hall: and the former CMCA space. In Camden, there will be two free outdoor concerts on the Village Green, 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
