These days it is difficult to find rental housing that allows more than one pet. Luckily, we have several cats and dogs who would be thrilled to be an only pet. They much prefer the company of people and would not mind waiting at home to be the center of attention when you are there.

Our “only” kitty pick is Ivey. He is a burly boy of around 7 to8 years old with a beautiful black coat shot through with white. He has spent his life outdoors and was lucky enough to find a good Samaritan who fed him this winter. Ivey is one of those cats you wish could talk, as it's obvious he would have interesting tales to tell. We think Ivey would prefer a home with adults and older children, as he doesn't enjoy life being too hectic.

If your taste leans more in the canine direction, we would have you meet Dolly, a 3-year-old terrier mix whose main goal in life is giving love to people. She needs to be an only pet in an adult/teen household, as her tough love style is too much for small children. Her perfect human would be someone who is very active, as she has energy to burn. If you enjoy jogging, hiking and serious dog kisses, Dolly could be your constant companion.

Ivey is asking for donations of dry kitten food and kitten replacement milk for the many babies in our foster homes. Being an outdoor girl, Dolly would like to make sure she and her fellow residents remain flea- and tick-free, and so is requesting Frontline Plus or K-9 Advantix. Both are available over the counter at local stores.

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, we will be holding a three-day adoption event from Thursday, May 30, through Saturday, June 1. All adoption fees will be $30 off the regular fee. Help us celebrate by adopting a new family member. We have more than 150 awesome animals waiting for a new home.

Wish list: Paper towels, dish washing gloves, facial tissue, garbage bags (13- and 33-gallon sizes), black Sharpie pens, Dry Erase pens.
