Camden — The 30th Annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships kicked off Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Camden Snow Bowl with a crowded field and a jovial atmosphere.

Cold temperatures and difficult travel conditions did little to limit attendance or enthusiasm for the event that each year brings a welcome dose of energy to the Camden winter.

Teams from across the country dressed in costumes ranging from dinosaurs to toys to lobsters, took turns hurtling down the chute at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

Between runs, the contestants joined spectators gathered around bonfires and stoves or huddled in ice houses of varying dimensions to escape the occasionally harsh wind.

Live music and copious amounts of food and beverages provided alternate routes for attendees to get warm.

The event wrapped up on Sunday, Feb. 9, with the final runs for qualifying teams.
