Dec 31, 2020
Jodi Paloni

Rockland/Midcoast — Beginning Saturday, Jan. 16, the Farnsworth Art Museum will present a three-part generative writing salon. The program, titled Adventures in Word and Image, will be led by author Jodi Paloni, It will take place on Zoom on Saturdays, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, and March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Join local author and career educator Paloni for a generative writing salon inspired by visual images selected from current Farnsworth Art Museum exhibitions and the museum collection, paired with snippets of poetry and prose to spark curiosity and imagination. Participants will engage first in a “sudden prompt” to get the creative juices flowing, and then break to write “alone among others” for about 30 minutes. Finally, writers will share their work fresh from the page and receive purely positive feedback. Themes will revolve around light and dark, object and figure, landscape and a sense of place. All levels of experience are welcome.

Paloni is the author of the collection "They Could Live With Themselves" (Press 53), runner up for the Press 53 Award for Short Fiction, an IPPY Silver Medalist, and a finalist for the Maine Book Awards. Her short works have been published in Art New England, Décor Maine, Maine Farmland Trust, and in a number of literary journals. She was a Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance Monson Arts Writing Fellow, a Joseph A. Fiore Center Literary Arts Resident, and a Peter Taylor Fellow at Kenyon Review Summer Writers’ Workshop. She has an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, an M.S. in Environmental Studies, and is a certified Gateless Writing Teacher. She is the founder of Maine Coast Writers Workshops and Retreats.
