Farnsworth presents 9th annual Fall Family Festival

Oct 08, 2020

Rockland — The Farnsworth Art Museum is excited to announce plans for its annual free Fall Family Festival, 2020 Virtual Edition! From Friday, Oct. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 31, in keeping with current restrictions on large public gatherings, the Farnsworth will host free remote activities and experiences geared especially toward children and families. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration.

Participants should preregister to secure a Fall Family Festival Jack-O-Lantern Kit, which includes everything needed to design and create a Halloween jack-o-lantern—including the pumpkin! The kit contains a child-safe pumpkin saw and scoop, pumpkin recipes, and ideas for making use of your pumpkin goo. There is no charge for Jack-O-Lantern Kits, but a reservation is required. Visit farnsworthmuseum.org to sign up.

Reserved Jack-O-Lantern Kits will be available for pickup at the Farnsworth Art Museum at an outdoor table just beyond the museum doors at the Museum Street entrance.

Pickup times are:

1–4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23; Monday, Oct. 26; and Wednesday–Friday, Oct. 28–30.

10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24 and 25.

Pickup will not be available on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The Farnsworth remote pumpkin-carving kits are offered free of charge thanks to the support of Beth’s Farm Market in Warren. Participants are invited to upload photos of carved pumpkins at farnsworthmuseum.org. We look forward to seeing your creations!

In addition, talented local musician, mime, and educator Scot Cannon will provide a live, family-friendly mime and music workshop entitled Be Positive Be Productive via Zoom on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. This 45-minute program will feature Halloween-inspired songs that the whole family will enjoy. There is no charge for the performance, but registration is required.

To reserve your Jack-O-Lantern Kit and to sign up for Scot Cannon’s autumn performance, please go to the Farnsworth’s website at farnsworthmuseum.org. While you’re there, be sure to sign up for the museum's e-newsletter to stay informed about upcoming plans for the Farnsworth’s much-beloved winter holiday celebration. The 2020 Virtual Edition of Share the Wonder will include gingerbread house kits and holiday performances!

Thanks to the Farnsworth we all have the opportunity to do what Jimmy Durante says in his song:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izrHbretmzs
