Falcons emerge against Mariners in high-scoring shootout

By Staff | Sep 12, 2017

Rumford — The Oceanside football team has demonstrated, through two games, that it can put impressive numbers on the scoreboard.

And while the Mariners did so again in their second game of the high school campaign against Mountain Valley of Rumford on Friday night, Sept. 8, they seemingly met their match in the Falcons, who held off the hosts to the tune of a 44-30 victory.

The Falcons established the tone early in the game and jumped to a 30-14 lead, but the Mariners rallied to tie the score as an 80-yard touchdown run by Mike Norton Jr. and a two-point conversion by Jack Freeman knotted the score 30-30.

However, the hosts scored 14 unanswered points to run away from the Mariners down the stretch.

Dylan Desroches had three rushing touchdowns for Mountain Valley and Jacob Blanchard two for the hosts.

Additional information from this game was unavailable.
