Camden — Camden Hills Regional High School's Class of 2018 marched through the streets of downtown Camden on May 4, making their way to the First Congregational Church of Camden for the baccalaureate celebration.

Although it was raining, parents and friends of the high school seniors looked on as the students and faculty members made their way through town. The weather prompted the students to pair their graduation caps and gowns with a new accessory: holding colorful umbrellas, the students followed bagpiper Ernie Smith on the procession to the church.

Inside the Congregational Church, musical performances were sung in unison, and a number of spiritual leaders from the community offered words of inspiration to the class. In unison, the students and their family members read the following dedication:

"For all of the people we have known throughout our school years, for all that we learn in and out of school, for all those who touch our lives in the future, we give thanks. As we enter a world filled with challenge and diversity, may we be tolerant and accepting of others. For the diversity which makes us one, we praise the Maker of this wonderful universe."

This year 160 students are graduating from Camden Hills. The graduation ceremony will be held June 8 at 7:59 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
