Union — As part of the popular summer concert series at Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery, Melissa Etheridge will perform Saturday, June 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

The Savage Oakes music venue offers an intimate outdoor concert experience, and food and a wide variety of Maine craft beverages are served. Tickets, $75 in advance, are festival-style general admission, with guests invited to bring along lawn chairs and blankets.

Known for her confessional lyrics and raspy, smoky vocals, Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 and has remained one of America’s favorite female singer/songwriters. The multiple Grammy winner also has an Oscar, winning the 2007 Best Song for “I Need to Wake Up,” written for “An Inconvenient Truth.” As a performer and songwriter, Etheridge has never allowed “inconvenient truths” to keep her down. Early in her recording career, she acknowledged her sexual orientation when it was considered less than prudent to do so. In 2004, Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer; despite losing her hair from chemotherapy, she appeared on the 2005 Grammy telecast to sing “Piece of My Heart” in tribute to Janis Joplin. Her latest album is the critically acclaimed “Memphis Rock & Soul.”
