Employees of The First in Rockland, Phoebe Carlson, Shannon Young and Viktorie Mathiau, presented a check for $2,250 to Oceanside High School as part of the Bank's First Hoop program. Accepting the check are members of the Oceanside Cheering squad. The First has donated $11,350 in over six seasons to the Oceanside athletic program.

Penobscot School welcomes native Italian instructor

ROCKLAND — Penobscot School welcomes Italian instructor, Danielle Tognato. A native of Padova, Italy, Tognato has taught Italian in the United States for several years. She also teaches Tai chi and Qi gong.

All levels of Italian at Penobscot School will begin Wednesday, March 12. Registrations are now being taken at 594-1084 or online at With a keen sense of humor and a gentle, encouraging style, Tognato is sure to create a relaxed atmosphere in class.

Lyon College names Ridgeway to dean's list

BATESVILLE, ARK. — Lyon College congratulates Avens Ridgeway of Union for being named to the fall 2013 dean's list.

Any full-time Lyon College student with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher earned on a minimum of 12 credited semester hours is recognized as a dean's list student for that semester.

Local students honored at St. Lawrence University

CANTON, N.Y. — The following students have been selected for inclusion on the dean's list for academic achievement during the fall 2013 semester at St. Lawrence University.

Jamie L. Burgess of Rockport. Burgess, a member of the Class of 2014, is majoring in biology. Burgess graduated from Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport.

Erica N. Dailey of Union. Dailey, a member of the Class of 2016, is majoring in anthropology. Erica graduated from Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.

McKenzie A. Meservey of Hope. Meservey, a member of the Class of 2015, is majoring in psychology. McKenzie graduated from Camden Hills Regional High School.

To be eligible, a student must have completed at least four semester units and have an academic average of 3.6 (based on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.

Foster named to honor roll

WEST NEWTON, MASS. — Alexander Foster, a freshman, at The Fessenden School has been named to the honor roll. He received Academic 1st honors (all As) and Effort 1st honors (All Es).

Two named to Clark dean's list

WORCESTER, MASS. — Tessa B. Isis-Bahoosh of Camden and John K. Klingelhofer of Rockport have been named to the dean's list at Clark University. To be eligible for first honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 (all A+s).

Karod makes the grade at UMO

ORONO — Jennifer Karod was named it to the dean's list for the fall semester of 2013 at the University of Maine in Orono.

Karod is a sophomore, majoring in communications, with minors in music and creative writing. She is the daughter of Dr. John Karod and Heidi Bentley Karod of Rockport.

Uges named to dean's list

COLCHESTER, VT. — Jessica L. Uges, daughter of Shirley Uges of Hope was named to the dean's list for the fall 2013 semester at Saint Michael's College.

Uges is a senior psychology major. Students who complete a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.4 at the end of a semester are recognized for their scholarship by inclusion on the dean's list.

Uges is a Camden Hills Regional High School graduate.
