Eat ice cream, help Maine children

CAMDEN — What’s better than ice cream on a hot summer day? Knowing that each scoop you order helps a Maine child with food insecurity.

Peter Ott’s restaurant, in Camden, will participate in the Ice Cream for a Cause event starting July 14. Bangor Savings Bank’s Buoy Local community program and Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream have partnered for Ice Cream for a Cause, to raise funds for local summer hot lunch programs. During the two-week event, from July 14 to 31, 25 cents from every scoop of Gifford’s Maine Wild Blueberry ice cream will be donated to a hot lunch program to help fund meals for children with food insecurity.

The Ice Cream for a Cause event will happen at Gifford’s company ice cream stands in Auburn, Bangor, Farmington, Skowhegan and Waterville. In addition to Peter Ott’s, four other businesses that serve Gifford’s ice cream will also take part: Dairy Frost in Brunswick, Blueberry Hill Dairy Bar in Ellsworth, Dairy Corner in Scarborough, and Pat’s Pizza in Yarmouth.
