Rockland — A Thomaston man who was drunk when his vehicle veered into the oncoming lane on Route 1 in Warren four months ago, causing a head-on crash, was sentenced to two years in prison.

Wyatt Weaver, 33, was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 11, in Knox County Superior Court for operating under the influence of alcohol, causing an injury. He was sentenced to four years in prison with all but two years suspended. He will be on probation for two years after his release, his license was suspended for six years, and he was fined $2,100.

Weaver was also ordered to pay restitution of $30,000. Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Baroody said the $30,000 will be to pay medical costs for one of the two people in the other vehicle who was injured and was not covered by Weaver's car insurance policy. One woman spent the summer in a wheelchair because of her injuries, the prosecutor said.

The crash occurred June 6.

Weaver's blood alcohol level, tested after the crash, was 0.258 -- more than three times the level at which state law defines someone as being under the influence.

He will begin serving the sentence Nov. 11.
