South Thomaston — The driver of a truck whose trailer broke loose, causing a crash that injured a woman, has been cited for a traffic violation.

Steven E. Richardson Jr., 50, of South Thomaston, was charged with operating with an inadequate safety chain or cable, Knox County Sheriff's Office Capt. Paul Pinkham said Thursday, Aug. 8.

The crash occurred July 29 on Buttermilk Lane in South Thomaston.

The trailer, which had been used to haul lobster traps, broke loose as the truck was driving west near a dip in the road, police reported after the crash. The trailer then veered into the eastbound lane and struck a car head-on.

Karin Walsh, 65, was initially taken by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport before she was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to a trauma center.
