Henry White

Rockland — Dr. Henry Oliver White died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Sussman House in Rockport after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 90. He had previously lived for many years in Camden.

Hank is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian, of Rockland; his children, Stephen White of Stonington, Conn., Jonathan White of Carmel, Calif., and Sarah Waltz, of South Thomaston; his sister, Mary Bailey, of California; his brother, Dr. Robert White, of New Jersey; five grandchildren and a great grandchild.

He was predeceased by a son, Bruce White, formerly of Bend. Ore.

Hank was a general and thoracic surgeon for nearly three decades and served patients at Camden Hospital, Knox General Hospital in Rockland, Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport and Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta.

Hank, who had a passion for sailing, tennis and music, was instrumental in the planning and building of Penobscot Bay Medical Center and fundraising for Sussman House, as he long advocated for a Midcoast-based, palliative, end-of-life care center that worked hand-in-hand with hospice.

A complete obituary will appear later.
