Dowling Walsh opens ‘Construct’

For “Left-Twist Blocks,” Aaron T Stephan cast cinderblocks of Portland cement and sand in a torqued form. Stacks of these twisted blocks spiral upwards.

Rockland — “Construct,” a group exhibition curated by Anna Queen, will open with a 5 to 8 p.m. reception Friday, April 14, at the downtown Dowling Walsh Gallery, 365 Main St.

“Construct” is built around the theme of social and material construction. The artists included use painting, sculpture, printmaking and collage to examine construction through various media. Whether through repurposing imagery or materials; creating imagined scenarios; shifting a ubiquitous object; or abstracting a familiar scene, each artist is restructuring information as usually experienced to create a new paradigm for viewing everyday physical and societal structures.

The multimedia group show features work by Aaron T. Stephan, Stephanie Cardon, Margaret Rizzio, Elizabeth Fox, Cal Siegel, Cig Harvey, John Goodyear and Fairfield Porter. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, contact the gallery at 596-0084 or; or visit
