Rockland — Benjamin Dorr will be Rockland's new city councilor.

Dorr topped a field of three with 1,244 votes. Brandy Perkins was second with 711 votes and Dale Hayward finished with 652 votes.

Dorr, 34, graduated from Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport and the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vt. He and his partner, Emily Seymour, own and operate the men's consignment store Curator on Main Street, which opened in May 2016. They live on James Street in a house they built in 2016.

He will be sworn into office on Nov. 19. He will succeed Adam Ackor who did not seek re-election.

The downtown businessman said he is grateful for the support and believes who he is and what he cares about resonated with with citizens. He said he was excited about being able to be a part of a Council that is doing great work for the community.

Doug Curtis Jr. and Tom Peaco were elected without opposition to the Regional School Unit 13 Board. This is Curtis' first time on the school board. Peaco is completing his first term. Both seats are for three years.

There were no candidates for a one-year seat on the school board. The Rockland City Council will be able to appoint someone to fill that vacancy until the next general election in November 2019.

Nancy Jeffers and Vera Roberts did not seek election to continue on the school board.

Rockland voters also expressed their sentiment on non-binding referendums concerning marijuana. Voters supported medical marijuana sales throughout the city including downtown.

Voters were split on adult use marijuana stores, however, with a majority supporting them in the city but opposed to them being located downtown.

The following chart shows voting results on the advisory questions the City Council put before the voters concerning marijuana sales in Rockland. The four nonbinding questions ask whether residents support medical marijuana sales in Rockland, medical marijuana sales downtown, adult marijuana sales in Rockland, and adult marijuana sales downtown.
