From the desk of Chrys deLorimier, development director at Pope Memorial Humane Society. We are getting excited for our annual Legacy Society Lunch in June -- celebrating community members who have made provisions for shelter animals in their estates or through planned gifts. This makes it a great time to talk about estate and planned giving.

If saving and rehoming homeless cats and dogs has been important in your life, perhaps you might consider making your personal legacy one of compassion, kindness and hope. Many people do not realize how simple providing a legacy gift for animals can be, or that most anyone can do so. Some of the ways are through a will, a gift of stock, annuity/charitable remainder trust, insurance beneficiary designation, or even real estate.

We love celebrating our Legacy Society members through exclusive events and recognition, but also respect wishes for anonymity. If you are interested in learning more, or would like to let us know about an estate or planned gift so we can include you in our Legacy Society, contact Chrys deLorimier at the shelter, Chrys@hskcme.org or 594-2200. We recommend speaking with your financial planner when making any financial decisions.

In upcoming events, please join us May 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Loyal Biscuit Co. on Main Street in Rockland for a microchipping clinic. A microchip for any pet is $25, or for a cat residing in a town contracting with PMHS, free (bring proof of primary residency). Towns listed on PopeHumane.org/about us/mission and history). May 11 is our annual Kids Day to celebrate national Be Kind to Animals Week, and from noon to 3 p.m. there will be live farm animals, crafts and fun for the whole family!

Our pet pick of the week is Dolly, a wonderful, big-hearted 4 year old pit mix. Her smile will melt your heart. She is seeking a home without small children or other dogs, but may be OK with cats, as she seems uninterested in the ones here at the shelter. She is 40 pounds, medium activity level and is ready to bring doggie joy into your home.

Our wish list this week includes smallest-sized dog biscuits, wet dog and cat food, cleaning supplies and trash bags in 13- and 33-gallon sizes. To learn more about available animals or upcoming events, visit our website at PopeHumane.org, follow us on Facebook or Instagram, or come see us. We are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed the third Wednesday of each month for staff training.

Thank you for all your support for the animals!
