Appleton — A person who suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound was rescued after the Knox County Communications Center was able to track a phone call.

The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. Friday, May 24.

Knox County Sheriff Tim Carroll said Saturday that dispatch received a call from a cellphone and the only information was that someone had suffered a gunshot wound. The dispatcher was able to trace the call to an area on Appleton Ridge Road, but deputies were unable to locate a person for a short time.

"We were able to locate it as they continued to track the phone," the sheriff said.

He said it was an attempted suicide. The person was conscious at the time emergency medical services arrived.

The person was taken to a hospital by a Life Flight helicopter.

The condition of the individual was not available.
