Despite Flash's 'Bah humbug' expression, he needs a home with laughter.

From the desk of Events Coordinator, Kasey Bielecki,

It’s that time of the year, time to license your dog! In order to obtain a license for your dog, you must present a current State of Maine Rabies Certificate obtained from a veterinarian.

On Saturday, Jan. 11 from noon to 2 p.m., Pope Memorial Humane Society will be offering a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic in the community room of the shelter. Dr. Mimi Moore will be on hand to administer the rabies vaccinations for only $10 each. We simply ask that your cat(s) be in a carrier and dog(s) on a leash.

Additionally, if you have proof of prior rabies vaccination, please bring it with you. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be a resident of Knox County to attend. If you have any questions, call Pope Memorial Humane Society at 594-2200.

I remember the day I first met Flash the cat. He had come on to the adoption floor and I couldn’t help but laugh and fall in love with his ridiculously cranky cat face. He definitely has a perma-grump face and it’s amazing.

Flash came into the shelter as a fractious stray. Basically, you couldn’t get near him without him trying to eat your face. With time, lots of treats, and extremely patient volunteers and staff, he came around, for the most part. He can still be a bit of a grump but he does enjoy a good head scratch. Now, instead of trying to eat you, he will just walk away when he has decided you have taken up enough of his time.

As a senior, cranky faced cat, Flash would do best in a home with no small children. He might never be that super cuddly cat, but we do think his cranky face and entertaining attitude will keep you amused for quite some time. If you have space in your house for a litter box trained, special guy like Flash, you should come by the shelter and visit him.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that we also have rabbits, guinea pigs and dogs. We have so many wonderful animals at the shelter right now and it is worth your time to stop by and visit!
