Designers, boutiques come together for Rockland fashion show

Rockland — The fourth annual WRFR Fashion Show and Silent Auction will be held Sunday, May 6 at the Lincoln Street Center in Rockland. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with an auction preview, refreshments and live music performed by Alice Limoges. The runway show will begin at 7 p.m.

New to the show are designs by Ariana Bethlan, creator of Revereti. Bethlan, a native of Camden, also has experience modeling and modeled for the WMPG fashion show in Portland.

Returning to the show for a third year is British-American designer Orlando Johnson who will be featuring clothing from the Orlando Benedict label. Launched in 2009, Orlando Benedict designs have varied from elegant dresses to casual tees, jackets and beachwear. His unique designs are influenced by his summers in Maine.

New boutiques to the show include Serendipity of Camden, Smarty Pants of Thomaston and the Lady’s Room Consignment Boutique of Damariscotta. These three consignment shops carry classy clothing, formal and casual, for women of all sizes.

Maces of Rockland will return for a second year with its collection of imported and domestic apparel.

Heavenly Threads of Camden will return for a third year. Heavenly Threads is a church-sponsored resale boutique in the First Congregational Church Manse and has fine fashions for men, women and children, including vintage clothing and formal wear. Heavenly Threads’ proceeds support community needs.

Grasshopper Shop of Rockland will return for a fourth year. Grasshopper Shop has been showing its fun, flirty spring line in the WRFR Fashion Show since the first show in 2009.

New to the event is a runway showing of the wearable auction items donated by local stores and craftspeople. These items include Pendleton jackets donated by Spirit Art Gallery East (SAGE) in Camden. Artist and weaver Cynthia Motian McGuirl of Dancing Blanket Handwovens has donated handmade earrings, a pin and a handwoven shawl. There will be jewelry from A New Look and Ginger’s Jewelry and Accessories. The Silent Auction will also feature gift certificates from Caravans, Waterman’s Beach Lobster, Hester Khol Zumba, artist Andy Finkle and others.

The models in this year’s show are as diverse as the exhibitors. Disc jockeys, dancers, roller derby members, beauty pageant winners, and a city council member will be sharing the catwalk. Guys & Dolls Hair Salon and RHEAL Day Spa of Rockland will make the women and men look their best on stage. Jesse Stuart will be photographing the event and Craig Mathieson will be filming the show for Maine Coast TV Channel 7.
