St. George — About seven seals have been found dead along the shore in St. George, including some near the Marshall Point Lighthouse.

Resident Nancy Fagley reported dead seals on the beach to the state. She said they included an adult female, five feet long and a male of similar size and at least four pups. The latest washed up on Saturday night, Sept. 8.

She said there was no sign of gun shots or propeller injuries on the seals.

Marine Mammals of Maine has been contacted to investigate. A representative from the organization could not be reached for comment.

The Portland Press Herald reported in August that 100 seals had been reported dead on beaches in southern Maine and the cause was under investigation.
