Rockport — Daniel M. Shejen 86, died Nov. 3 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Danny was born in Hollywood, Florida to Amy E. (Norton) and Harry W. Shejen Sr. He attended York, Maine schools, and served in World War II as a Seaman 1st Class Navy Gunner. He was involved in the Murmansk Russian run and survived the sinking of two ships. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal as well as multiple ribbons for his service in WWII.

Danny was a self-employed builder and remodeler of many homes in the York and Wells area for 50-plus years. In his retirement, he was an avid hunter with a love of the sport, and the owner of Faith Farm in Rockport, where he enjoyed raising blueberry crops and spending time with his friends and family.

Danny is survived by his wife of 66 years Norma J. (Simonds) Shejen, his son Daniel “Rod” Shejen and wife Beverly of Appleton, three grandchildren Daniel P. Shejen and wife Kandis of Dover, N.H., Matthew S. Shejen and wife Kristen of Springfield, Mass., Sarah (Shejen) Rossiter and husband Michael of Lincolnville and three great-grandchildren, Preston Rossiter, Camden Shejen and Logan Shejen, two brothers Harry Shejen of York and Earl Shejen of York, a sister Winnifred (Shejen) Brayton of Lecanto, Fla. as well as several nieces and nephews. Danny was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth (Shejen) Morgridge.

Danny attended the West Rockport Baptist Church, was a member of the Saint Aspinquid Lodge 198, 32nd degree Mason Valley of Portland and a past member of the Kora Temple Shrine.

A public memorial service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank PO Box 1807, Auburn, ME 04211-1807, or Mid-Coast Meals on Wheels, 46 Summer St., Rockland, ME 04841.
