Rockland — The Monday Night Blues series continues Aug. 21 with Tas Cru & His Band of Tortured Souls, playing 7 p.m. in the upstairs music room of Time Out Pub, 275 Main St. Admission will be $10 at the door.

Like the name of his latest album, Tas Cru’s songs are “Simmered and Stewed” to perfection. Cru has received wide praise for his songwriting; his raucous, rowdy, gentle, sweet, eccentric, quirky and outright irreverent tunes are equally memorable for their hooks and their lyrics.

Based out of upstate New York, Cru performs in a variety of formats and on a variety of axes including resonator, cigar box and acoustic guitar. When no performing, he brings his award-winning Blues Education programs and workshops to schools, hospitals and community centers — work recognized by the Blues Foundation’s 2014 Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Blues Education.

Next up in the weekly series is, Aug. 28, a double-artist show by Johnny Rawls and Selwyn Birchwood bands ($20, starts 6 p.m.); and, Sept. 11, Bridget Kelly Band ($10). Note there is no show on Labor Day, but the performances from this year’s blues festival will be broadcast the Saturday and Sunday of the holiday weekend starting at 6 p.m. on Maine’s KISS-FM stations.
