The middle school project continues to make great progress and now the interior is really starting to feel like a school. The site has between 80 and 90 crew members in various trades who are working on the grounds, interior, exterior and roof. Furthest along is the academic wing where crews are progressing from the ground level up. Having been the starting point for finishing work, the ground floor is the most complete. The bathrooms have been tiled and crews will begin installing doors, hardware, and bathroom accessories in mid-January. In the meantime, carpeting work is about to begin.

On the first floor, workers have completed the millwork in classrooms, installed the science room casework and they will install flooring once the ground level is completed. Drywall work has just about finished on the second floor, painting has started, and casework will follow the painting. The elevator crew has been working on installation for the past couple of weeks and will finish soon. Drywall is being installed in the band and chorus rooms, the admin. wing, and on the inner wall of the gym. Crews have roughed-in the kitchen and installed the walk-in coolers.

If you’ve been braving the cold to walk past the site, you may have noticed that the clapboards are up on the front exterior. The stone veneer is also complete and almost all the glass is in with the exception of doors. Installation of the Nichiha fiber cement siding continues and the crew is finishing the asphalt roof. The exterior of the building is really coming together and is almost completely “buttoned” up.

The much-anticipated playground is getting closer to completion. The stainless-steel slide is in place and the tunnel has been set. Many rock walls are installed and the crews have started on the foundation for the equipment. Another playground feature, the climbing wall, will be installed as panels and that installation will happen soon. We can't wait to watch our students and the community enjoy this playground for many years.

In addition, we are finalizing furniture purchases, organizing the removal of equipment and planning the move. Teachers will move out of their old rooms and into their new rooms during the month of June. We will schedule most furniture delivery (approximately 50 percent of the furniture will be new) for early July. We will do anything we can do this spring to get a jump on the logistics of moving. The excitement is certainly building, no pun intended, and we are on track for a Sept. 8, 2020 opening.
