Beth Birmingham has returned to the news staff at Courier Publications, covering the towns of Warren, Union, Friendship, Waldoboro and Washington and School Administrative District 40.

She previously worked at The Courier-Gazette from 1981 to 1990. During her tenure, she was a typesetter, copy editor, photographer, sports and feature writer, and editorial assistant.

"Things were done a lot differently back then," she said.

Birmingham has a passion for photography, especially when it involves the ocean.

"It is my therapy," she said about being able to spend time near the water again. She also enjoys running along the waterfront. "The boardwalk is part of my exercise route," she said.

She has an associate of arts degree in photography from the University of Maine at Augusta, in affiliation with the Maine Photographic Workshop in Rockport.

Birmingham had been in retail sales management for the past 19 years with Wolf/Ritz Camera & Image in Illinois and New York, until its liquidation last year.

She has a daughter, Claire, 12.

Any news tips or community events can be reported to her at or by calling Courier Publications at 594-4401 ext. 125.
