Conservation District sets 71st Awards Banquet for Oct. 17

Rockport — Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District holds its 71st Annual Awards Banquet Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Jewell Lodge overlooking Damariscotta Lake at Camp Wavus, 88 Wavus Point Road, Jefferson. The public is invited.

The evening begins with a cash bar provided by Savage-Oakes Vineyard & Winery and appetizers, followed by a dinner buffet -- including beef, chicken and vegetarian selections, salads and more – catered by Megunticook Market. There will be a chance to learn what the district has been up to this past year and to celebrate the organizations with whom it has worked to conserve soil and water resources in the district. Throughout the evening there will be raffle drawings, a chance to meet district supervisors and staff, and to peruse displays highlighting current district projects.

This year the district is recognizing the following conservationists for their contributions:

Conservation Farm of 2018 - Cooper Funk and Marina Sideris (Camden) of Dooryard Farm

Lifetime Service – William Laflamme (Sidney), Maine DEP (retired)

Special Appreciation – North Nobleboro Community Association

Volunteer of the Year – Gail Presley (Rockland)

Woodland Stewardship – Dick Koubek (Bremen)

Excellence in Conservation Education – Coral Coombs, Lincolnville Central School; Ferolyn Curtis, South School (Rockland); Pamela Walton, Gilford Butler School (South Thomaston)
