Community rallies for Waldo Work Day

Nov 08, 2018
Neither wind nor rain stayed a crew of community members from working to clean up the Waldo Theatre for winter.

Waldoboro — On a recent rainy, windy Saturday, 19 community members came out and worked incredibly hard during the Waldo Theatre’s fall work day. The theater board thanks everyone for their help pulling carpet from the floors and fabric from the balcony walls, trucking it to the dump, taking apart a stage addition from a past production, cleaning out storage spaces, vacuuming and working on the downstairs dressing room.

The work party included Jim and Chris Derby, Arvin Roen, Sandy Crane, Virginia Betts, Steve Spencer, Ken Stevenson, Ian Kennedy, Janet McMahon, Bridget Hooper, Bruce Metric, Maurita Lord, Barbara Boardman, Cat Skov, Duncan Halm, Sophie Davis, Erica Moody, Chris Davis and Beth Hickey. Tidemark Gallery provided lasagna and a place to warm up for the workers; and Penelope and Sandy Crane welcomed all who could to dinner at the end of the day.

The nonprofit’s board is grateful to the community for contributing in so many ways to revitalizing the Waldo Theatre. Upcoming events include Shelly’s Flowers and Gifts’ Designing With the Stars fundraiser for the Waldo Thursday, Nov. 15; Lincoln Theater’s “Crimes of the Heart” in Damariscotta Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 15 through 17, where half the proceeds from all shows will go to the Waldo, provided “Waldo” is mentioned when tickets are purchased (see link below); Dec. 8’s “The Little Fir Tree” concert featuring Josie and Sophie Davis and friends at Broad Bay Church in Waldoboro.
