Ducks Unlimited holds dinner, auction Sept. 12

ROCKLAND -- The Mid-Coast Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual banquet and live auction at the Elks Lodge, 210 Rankin St., Sept. 12, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person, $100 per couple and $35 for youth. Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit organization that raises money to enhance and restore natural habitat and wetlands in North America.

Fundraiser for woman with lung disease set for Sept. 21

WARREN -- Family members are holding a public supper and auction at the Oddfellows Hall, Route 90, to help Valerie Hale, who has lung disease and needs a double lung transplant, with medical and other expenses. On the menu will be baked beans, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, coleslaw, biscuits and pies. Dinner is $12 for adults, $6 for children under 12.

In addition, there will be an auction and raffles.

First Universalist book sale set for Sept. 27-28

ROCKLAND -- First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, holds its biennial used book sale Friday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to gently used books, there will be games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. A cafe will offer beverages and goodies.

Donations of books will be accepted at the church from Monday, Sept.23, through Friday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No magazines, textbooks, condensed books or moldy books. For more information, call Barbara Malone at 236-8795
