First Universalist sets plant sale for May 12

ROCKLAND -- First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, will hold its annual plant sale Saturday, May 12, from 8 to 11 a.m. In addition to annuals and perennials, offerings will include Hatchet Cove Farm organic vegetable seedling, birdhouses, baked goods and a raffle for hanging plants.

New this year will be a 10 a.m. talk by toxicologist Pam Bryer on how to reduce pesticide use in the law and garden.

Library hosts T-shirt transformation workshop May 12

ROCKLAND -- The Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., will have a T-shirt transformation workshop May 12 at 11:30 a.m. led by librarians Jessie Blanchard and Patty King. Participants will cut, paint, bleach-dye and decorate shirts into works of art. Some T-shirts will be available, but partiipants are asked to bring one if possible.  For teens and adults. Medomak Middle School hosts fundraiser for class trips May 12

WALDOBORO -- Medomak MIddle School, 318 Manktown Road, holds its 10th annual auction to support class trips and community studies May 12 starting with an auction preview at 4 p.m. in the school's gym. Silent auction bidding begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by a live auction at 6. Food will be available for purchase. All are welcome.

Get tips on de-cluttering at library May 17

ROCKLAND -- The public is invited to join Lisa Lyons at the Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., Thursday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. and participate in a discussion about the insights of bestselling authors Marie Kondo ("The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" and "Spark Joy") and Margareta Magnusson ("The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning") — including how to deal with too much stuff in all the wrong places, and how to decide who will inherit the family heirlooms when your millennial kids love everything modern and plastic. Rockland BMV office to close May 21

Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles employees will be taking part in communication enrichment training, focusing on topics of improving self-awareness, such as generational differences, inherent biases and emotional intelligence.

District branch office employees will train together, so all branches in the area will be closed on the designated training day. Monday, May 21, all Northern District branches will be closed for training. This includes: Bangor, Ellsworth, Calais, Rockland and Caribou. Library friends seek plant donations for annual sale

ROCKLAND -- The Friends of Rockland Public Library will hold its annual book, plant and bake sale June 9 at the library, 80 Union St. The group needs donations of plants from local gardens for the sale. Volunteers can come to donors' homes and carefully dig up, divide and and repot perennials or pick up donations of plants and gardening equipment.
