Common Ground Garden gains a piano

Photo by: Lynn Snow Fifth-grade students from Thomaston Grammar School welcome a newly donated piano to the Common Ground Garden and Outdoor Classroom.

Thomaston — The Thomaston Grammar School Common Ground Garden and Outdoor Classroom continues to grow and evolve. An upright piano is the newest addition to the space. A local citizen donated her personal piano and Knowlton Movers of Warren gave their moving services in kind.

The piano is located on the garden’s rain water collection stage. The piano will have a custom cover made for it to help protect it from the elements. Also, two timpani drums have been donated to the garden and these, along with the piano, are giving kids an opportunity to try their musical hands. The instruments provide a unique opportunity to learn about sound vibration, culture, and history. The piano and the drums cultivate creativity, breed confidence and may inspire some students to actually learn to play!

Does music effect plant growth? Depending upon the music, numerous studies have shown that music does promote faster, healthier growth. We shall see!

How wonderful!  Hat's off to Lynn Snow and her students.  She is an inspiration to all teachers right now!
