Come Boating! hosts 17th annual regatta Aug. 19

By Staff | Aug 11, 2017

Belfast — ComeBoating! will host its 17th annual regatta on Saturday, Aug. 19 on the waterfront. The race will begin at 10 a.m., with in-person sign-up required 8 to 9 a.m. Online registration is available on the CB! website before Wednesday, Aug. 16.

The race, open to six- and four-oared boats, and all other rowed or paddled vessels, will cover a course of four nautical miles.

Youth races and impromptu skirmish matches between willing boats likely are to follow the celebratory potluck and awards ceremony.

Currently CB! anticipates a record number of entrants, especially among pilot gigs.

Thus far, the organization expects gigs from Westport, Mass.'s Team Dharma, Gloucester Gig Rowers, Mass Bay Open Water Rowing team, the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, as well as three strong home teams.

Other craft from Station Maine of Rockland and Isleford Boatworks also are expected.

The regatta hosted and supported by Belfast’s annual Harbor Fest. During this three-day festival, Belfast celebrates its boating traditions with the National Boat Building Challenge, Cardboard Boat Challenge, tours of the Front Street Shipyard, and a Classic Boat Show.

Music, dance, food and drink will be plentiful, along with children's activities and a Habitat for Humanity Lobster Gala to benefit Habitat Waldo County. There also will be a pancake breakfast, 5K "Bug Run/Walk," and Rotary Charity Gala.
