Rockport — Nativity Lutheran Church and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church are hosting a Blessing of the Animals on the grounds of Nativity, 179 Old County Road, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. The greater community is invited to come and celebrate the animals in our lives. People can bring their pets, a stuffed animal, a picture of a beloved animal or even a picture of an endangered species in the wild.

The Rev. Wendy Anderson, Nativity, and the Rev. Lael Sorensen, St. Peter’s, will lead a brief ceremony and each animal will receive an individual blessing. Photographer Aidan Kaczynski of AKZ Photography will be available to take posed photos of pets and their owners. P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center will be on hand to answer questions about the challenges of shelter life and the benefits of adopting a pet from a shelter. Treats will be available for pets, and their people will be able to enjoy lemonade, cookies and fellowship with other animal lovers.

A Blessing of the Animals service witnesses to God's and the church's love, care and concern for creation. In recognizing our mutual interdependence with God's creatures, our commitment to stewardship of creation can be strengthened. The service also provides opportunity to thank God for the many ways animals enrich our lives.
