Cemetery preservation workshop set for Sept. 8-11

Aug 02, 2017

St. George — The Ridge Association, with organizational help from the Maine Old Cemetery Association, will offer a workshop on cemetery preservation at the Ridge Cemetery in Martinsville, a part of St. George, Sept. 8 through 11. The guest presenter will be Joe Ferrannini of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., an expert in gravestone preservation.

Ferrannini asked if MOCA would assist in this project and, although it is not a MOCA workshop, it will follow the same format MOCA has used in the past – beginning Friday at 9 a.m. with a classroom presentation by Ferrannini, a cemetery walk-through, and then demonstrations and hands-on practice cleaning stones, straightening stones, resetting dies into bases, making new bases, epoxy repair, pin replacement, and other skills needed to preserve the stones in this cemetery.

Registration is now open for the workshop, and there is no fee. Donations to defray the cost of the program will be accepted each day of the workshop, with any surplus funds being donated to MOCA. For more information or to register, visit online at moca-me.org.
