From the desk of Shelter Manager Theresa Gargan. We love our cats here at Pope Memorial Humane Society; however, we love it even more when they find a home of their own. This week finds us utterly overwhelmed with kitties at the shelter. Cats of every age, size, color and temperament. Dog-loving cats, kid-friendly cats, I’d-rather-be-an-only cats and where’s-the-party cats. All of these special felines have one thing in common. They just want a place to call home.

One of our residents is Akon, a handsome, 2-year-old orange male who came to us as a stray. Because he had a wound of unknown origin, poor Akon has had to spend the past four months in quarantine. Through it all he has been a sweetheart, patiently waiting for his meals, treats and love. It is as if he knew we were getting him well for his perfect family. Akon would do well in a home with other cats, children and perhaps a well-behaved dog.

If you are looking for a single cat, Reuben (Ruby) may fill the bill. She is a one-woman party and just needs a place to be the perfect hostess. This 2-year-old female may have an odd name, but is a beautiful girl with lovely green eyes. Very outgoing and playful, she would fit in well with a family with children, but does not want to share them with any other pets.

All of our cats go home up to date on vaccines, sterilized, micro-chipped, de-wormed and flea-treated. All you need to do is provide them with a sunny window, good food and plenty of love. The rewards for giving a shelter kitty a home are endless. Come in and find your perfect match.

A reminder that tickets for our signature 30th Anniversary event, Bark + Brew in the Barn, are on sale now. Join us at Harmony Hill Farm in Warren Aug. 14 for the party of the summer. A limited number of tickets remain. Call the shelter at 594-2200 for more information.

Wish list: Paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap refills, Windex refills, wet cat and dog food, Kitten Milk Replacement. Gift certificates to Staples, Walmart and other local businesses. Thank you for your support.
