Rockland — The Sanctuary Gallery at Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St., will present “Garden Music,” a creative exploration of musical instruments and the natural world in watercolors by Katherine Cartwright of Spruce Head. The opening reception will be Sunday, Nov. 5, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and the paintings will remain on display until Dec. 15.

“For me, painting is an exploration into self. My works are deeply personal and reflect aspects of my life,” said Cartwright.

Cartwright studied music as a child and fondly remembers helping her mother in her flower gardens. She received formal training as a painter at the Maryland Institute College of Art. A few decades later in her career as an artist, she left oil painting in favor of watercolor and promptly excelled. She holds Signature status in the National Watercolor Society and her work was included in the International Watercolor Exhibit that toured China in 2013 and 2014.

The gallery is open weekdays; call the church office for specific hours, 594-8656.
