Carolyn Wynn Steele

Mar 31, 2014

Marlton, N.J. — Carolyn Wynn Steele left this sorry world for a much better one March 27, 2014, at Wiley Mission Retirement Community, Marlton, N.J.

Carolyn was born to Clifton B. and Ruby Virginia Saxton Dec. 7, 1926, in Camden, N.J. having one brother, Clifton B. Saxton Jr. She grew up in Collingswood, N.J., graduating in the high school class of 1944. She then enrolled in Cooper Hospital’s nursing school when she earned her Registered Nursing degree.

In 1948, she married Robert Wynn and moved to Haddonfield where they raised their four children. She was active in many aspects of her church, the Bible Presbyterian Church (Collingswood) teaching young children’s Sunday School and many social events.

Carolyn’s career included working at Cooper Hospital and the Bancroft School in Haddonfield. She made friends wherever she went, but her Bancroft friends loved and supported her to the very end of her life. In the 1970s, she worked at Bancroft’s summer camp in Owls Head, where she and Bob fell in love with beautiful coastal Maine. They made a plan to retire there, but Bob died in 1981.

So Carolyn moved there on her own in 1988 where she met and married Frank Steele in Owls Head Baptist Church where she worshipped and ministered for the next 20 years. In this marriage, she gained three wonderful new daughters who joined our family. Frank died in 1998 and Carolyn remained there another 10 years. In 2008, she moved back to New Jersey to the Wiley Mission Retirement Community.

Carolyn is survived by four children with Bob, Donna Moore, Langhorne, Pa., David Wynn, Woodbury, N.J., Deborah Wynn-Saber (John), Kensington, Md. and Darrell Wynn, Stratford, N.J. She is also survived by Frank’s daughters, Diane Steele (Eric), Lori Steele (Larry) and Lynne Steele. She was blessed with one grandson, Bryan Wynn (Melissa) and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 2, at Wiley Mission Church, 99 East Main St., Marlton, N.J. 08053. Visitation/viewing at 10:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m. Rev. Thomas R. Beard will officiate. Interment at Haddonfield Baptist Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send contribution to charity of choice.
