Captains license classes offered at Five Town CSD Adult Ed

Jun 04, 2021

Five Town CSD Adult Ed is offering two information sessions on obtaining a Coast Guard Captain’s license, July 20 and again on Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The full course will begin in the fall of 2021. The information sessions will be held live via Zoom; participants must have reliable internet and a device with audio and camera capabilities.

The informational session will help answer questions such as the differences between an Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel license and a Master 100GT license, and what experience the Coast Guard requires for each. Also discussed will be the different methods of completing the course requirements.

This information session is free, but register in advance, so the instructor knows how many individuals will be attending.

The Captain School Key West, through local instructor John Coffin, is offering both the information nights and the full course. The fee of $900 for the OUPV course includes texts, charts, navigation tools, and the USCG-approved exam.

Contact Five Town Adult Ed at 236-7800, opt. 5 or adulted@fivetowns.net. Registration for the information night is available at fivetowns.maineadulted.org.
