Camden to hold Arbor Day observance

May 14, 2018

Camden — The town of Camden will hold its 24th annual Arbor Day observance at the Camden Amphitheater, on Atlantic Ave., behind the Camden Public Library, on Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m., rain or shine.

This year, the Camden-based arboriculture company, Treekeepers LLC, is donating a Prairie Dream paper birch, which they will plant to replace an original Amphitheater birch removed in 2017 due to decay. Camden residents and arborists Douglas N. Johnson and Nancy Caudle-Johnson founded Treekeepers LLC and 2018 marks the company's twenty-fifth year of preserving and protecting Maine's trees. Following a brief ceremony, Library Parks director Dave Jackson and Johnson will lead a guided tour of the Library parks.

This year's Arbor Day program is organized by Caudle-Johnson, Camden's Arbor Day and Tree City USA coordinator, and Johnson, formerly of the Camden Conservation Commission.
