Camden to celebrate new solar array

Camden’s municipal solar array began sending power to the grid on Jan. 3, 2018.

Camden — Camden will celebrate its new solar array with an “open house” event, at Sagamore Farm, in Camden, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Camden’s municipal solar array began sending power to the grid on Jan. 3, enabling the town to offset some of its electricity consumption. The 351-panel array provides 123 kW DC (92.4 kW AC). The electricity it supplies is cheaper for Camden than utility-provided electricity and, after year 16, will be virtually free.

Sagamore Farm is off Route 1, just south of the entrance to Camden Hills State Park. Visitors can turn into the driveway at Laite Construction, 216 Belfast Road, and park behind the green warehouse (or, if they need closer access, continue up the sloped track to the array area). To access the walking or biking trails, park at The Lodge at Camden Hills and walk up Sagamore Farm Road to the trail head, on the left.
