Camden Shakespeare’s summer sizzle

Sophie Jones and Thomas Daniels will star in Camden Shakespeare Festival's “Romeo and Juliet.”

Camden — This summer, Camden Shakespeare Festival will present “Romeo and Juliet” and “Much Ado About Nothing” in conjunction with the Camden Public Library, with the support of local businesses and volunteers. Tickets are now on sale.

​“Romeo and Juliet,” Shakespeare’s story of unquenchable love, will be presented outdoors in the Camden Amphitheatre, with one special performance at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church. Performances dates for the amphitheater are Wednesday through Friday, July 26 through 28; and Aug. 3, 4, 6, 9, 12 and 13. The St. Thomas’ performance will be Saturday, July 29. All performances begin at 6 p.m.

“Much Ado About Nothing,” Shakespeare’s most scintillating comedy, is the ultimate battle of the sexes. It will be presented in High Mountain Hall Sunday, July 30; and Aug. 1, 2, 5, 10 and 11. All performances begin at 7 p.m.

This summer’s cast features Maine’s best actors, along with guest artists from all over the country. Maine talent includes Gordon Adams, Al D’Andrea, Cora Lindell, Cullan Hamilton, Jake Hammond, Clay Hawks, Peter Henderson, Morgan Hooper, Savannah Irish, Dana Wieluns Legawiec, Stephen Legawiec, River Lombardi, Kathleen Nation, Elliot Nye, Mary Randall, Lindsey Reilly, Eliza Robinson, David Troup, Jessie U. Vander, Elise K. Voigt and Collin Young. Guest artists include Nick Bryant (Chicago); New York actors Thomas Daniels and Morgan Hooper; Sophie Jones (Philadelphia); and Atlanta actors Abi Sneathen and Jacob Valleroy.

Opening nights are pay-what-you-can. Prior to the season opening, discounted tickets can be purchased at Zoot Coffee, 31 Elm St./Route 1.
