Camden Principal mum on reason for student hospitalization

By Daniel Dunkle | Dec 10, 2019

Camden — A Camden Hills Regional High School student had to be rushed to the hospital Tuesday, Dec. 10, from the school, but was able to return safely to be with her family, according to a letter to parents from Principal Shawn Carlson.

"I am reaching out to let you know that there was an ambulance here today that transported a student to the emergency room," he said. "The student was under the care of the school nurse when it was decided that she should be seen by a doctor. The student was seen and is now home safely with her family."

He went on to say the student received excellent care, but he would not share any more details.

What I meant to say, sorry, is...What Sam said.  Why notify the parents only to start panic.  Why even report it?  Oh yeah, cause it is a story that we can give our opinion on.  LOL

Right on target Francis and Sam.

Medical care is protected by HIPPA regulations. Patients have rights to confidentiality concerning their medical care and treatment. I am sure that students were talking about an emergency vehicle being at the school, who was involved, etc. It's none of their business.

I am surprised the school sent a notice home; no-one other than the child and his/her parent/guardian needed to know.

Maybe if the other students were in jeopardy otherwise it is none of their business. I trust the administration knew whether or not her condition was the whole community's business.

Of course, reporting the story to get it started helps.

Hopefully, this will not put panic in parents whose children go the the high school.  In my opinion, ALL parents with students going to the Camden Hills Regional High School have a right to be notified of the cause of the student being rushed to the hospital.  By ot letting the parents know starts panic and gossip.
