Camden Library offers presentation on bird watching on Attu

Jan 07, 2019

Camden — Attu, in the Aleutian Islands, is known worldwide as a birding mecca. The westernmost point in the U.S., located 1500 miles from mainland Alaska, Attu was the target destination for an intrepid group of five Maine birders in the spring of 2012. At the Camden Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., Doug Hitchcox, Maine Audubon’s staff naturalist, will present  a travelogue of photos and stories that document his birding adventure into the Eastern Hemisphere, highlighted by rare species, colonies of over two million birds, song sparrows the size of robins and a bird that only recently rebounded from the edge of extinction.
