Camden hosts public forums prior to June election

Camden — The town of Camden is hosting four public forums at the Town Office prior to the June town meeting.

The public and media are encouraged to come to learn more about the issues and candidates that will be voted upon on June 13 and 14.

The first forum on Thursday, May 18 will address planning and zoning questions, and the second will cover the bond for the proposed new middle school. The final two forums introduce voters to the Select Board candidates, and subsequently the candidates hoping to serve on the boards of SAD 28 and CSD 19.

All forums will be held at the Washington Street Conference Room at the Camden Town Office. Details of the presentations are as follows:

On Thursday May 18, at 6 p.m., the Planning Board will hold a forum offering the public and media an opportunity to ask questions regarding ballot article 3, the proposed draft of a new Comprehensive Plan and June 14 floor articles 5 and 6. Article 5 is a proposed development agreement regarding the restoration of the American Boathouse. Article 6 is a proposed zoning amendment regarding changes to permitted uses to the Harbor Business Zone.

On Monday, May 22, at 7 p.m., MSAD 28 Superintendent Maria Libby and Camden Select Board member Marc Ratner will host a public meeting to present the Bond issue for the proposed new middle school.

Tuesday, May 23 is candidates’ night at the Town Office. At 6:30 p.m., the public and media are invited to meet the six candidates for Camden’s Select Board. The meeting will allow for questions from both the media and public.

On Tuesday May 30, at 6:30 p.m., the two candidates for SAD 28 and CSD 19 will be available to take questions from the public and the media.

All of the forums will be broadcast on Time-Warner channel 22 and streamed live through Camden’s town website at this link.
