Mount Desert Island — The Camden Hills varsity sailing team ended another successful season by winning the Great Harbor Regatta the weekend of May 26-27 at the Mount Desert Community Sailing Center.

Eight teams competed, as Camden Hills finished first at 40 points, Islesboro second at 53 and Portsmouth, N.H. third at 64.

Additionally, Rockland Community sailor Elliot Spear won the A Division with 25 points, followed by a tie between Camden Hills' Simon Morin and Islesboro's Emily Lau at 29 points.

Camden Hills' skipper Hugh Levitt handily won the B Division with five first places, a second and third for 11 points, followed by Islesboro at 24 points, and Portsmouth 34 points.

The sailing took place at Southwest Harbor.

"The weather conditions were light to moderate with a strong current running on the course," said Tori Willauer, sailing director at The Apprenticeshop in Rockland (which hosts Rockland Community Sailing). "The current was a large factor in the strategy of where the sailors wanted to be at the start and on the course of the race."

Willauer said, "it proved to be an awesome season" for Camden Hills, which won the  Yarmouth Team Racing Regatta, The Apprenticeshop Team Racing Regatta, the state championships and The Great Harbor Regatta.

The Apprenticeshop hosts three area high school sailing teams in the spring and fall and offers youth and adult sailing in the summer. For more information about the organization's boatbuilding and sailing programs, visit apprenticeshop.org.
