Newcastle — Not that there was any doubt, but, apparently, the Camden Hills girls soccer team is taking the defense of its three straight state Class A championships serious. Very seriously.

And when the Windjammers get serious, which they are 99 percent of the time, that is bad news for opponents and their goalie — along with an inopportune time to be the nets.

That is because the talented, deep, championship-driven, No. 1 Windjammers (16-0) added double-figure goals to their total of 23 in two postseason games en route to an 11-1 victory over No. 4 Oxford Hills of South Paris (10-5-1) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Lincoln Academy.

The Class A North semifinal playoff game was moved to the artificial turf field at LA after heavy recent rain made Don Palmer Field at Camden Hills unplayable.

Surely, the Vikings would have preferred to play on the rain-soaked Windjammer field because maybe, just maybe, it might have slowed the incredibly fast and cohesive Windjammers from mounting their overwhelming offensive attack.

With the win, the Windjammers will play in the regional championship against No. 6 Bangor (9-5-2), after the Rams earned a 2-0 semifinal win over No. 2 Brunswick (12-4), on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at McMann Field in Bath, also an artificial turf facility.

The Rams are longstanding Windjammer nemeses who often bring out the best in the both squads.

This season, Camden Hills beat Bangor twice (3-1 and 4-2) and Brunswick once (3-0). The Windjammers also bested Oxford Hills 9-2 earlier this fall.

Earlier in the playoffs, Brunswick beat No. 7 Hampden Academy 4-0, Bangor beat No. 3 Mount Ararat of Topsham 2-1 and Oxford Hills beat No. 5 Messalonskee of Oakland 4-3 in overtime.

In Saturday's semifinal playoff clash, Camden Hills, which also won the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A title this fall, got six goals from Kris Kelly and one from Kaylyn Krul, Ella Powers, Ali Saucier, Ali Tassoni and Ella Pierce. Pierce (2), Anya Babb-Brott, Krul and Kelly also added assists.

Alex Southworth played in goal for the Windjammers, who finished with 21 shots and two corner kicks. Liz Hallee minded the net for the Vikings.

The Windjammers took the drama out of Saturday's game early with eight first-half goals. Thus, the juggernaut that has become Camden Hills soccer continued.

Kelly had the first three scores at 33:07, 28:18 and 23:12, two off assists from Pierce and Babb-Brott. Krul scored at 18:00 and Powers at 11:15 to make it 5-0 before Celia Melanson scored for Oxford Hills at 8:47. Saucier (6:33, Krul assist), Kelly (3:28, Pierce assist) and Pierce (23 seconds) to complete the scoring for the first 40 minutes.

In the second half, Tassoni (38:58, Kelly assist) and Kelly (29:43 and 25:06) finished the scoring.

The nets was happy onslaught was over.

Camden Hills, which also beat No. 8 Lewiston 12-0 in the quarterfinals, also continued its impressive unbeaten streak, which now is in it fourth season, at 67 games. The Windjammers are 66-0-1 since their last loss — against Bangor — on Sept. 20, 2016.

Including two playoff encounters, Camden Hills has outscored opponents 119-11, with eight shutouts, this fall.

Kelly, a senior committed to play Division I college soccer at Central Connecticut State University, has keyed the Windjammer offense in the playoffs with 12 goals. In her four years at Camden Hills, she has 157 goals, 64 assists and 37 hat tricks.
