Waldoboro — The clash between the Camden Hills and Medomak Valley high school boys soccer teams on Friday afternoon, Oct. 12 featured sides that desperately needed a victory to keep postseason hopes alive.

The Windjammers came into Friday’s clash ninth in Class A North — as the top eight in the region qualify for postseason play — dangerously close to missing the playoffs for the first in program history, according to longtime Camden Hills coach, teacher and broadcaster Charlie Crockett.

The Panthers entered the game in the 14th and final playoff spot in Class B North.

Something had to give between the longstanding Midcoast athletic rivals and, by game’s end, it was the Windjammers who brought their “A” game on the Class B Panthers' field and sailed to a 3-0 win.

Ben Owre netted a pair of goals in the win for Camden Hills and Quinn Brown added one, while Brown, Michael Blackwell and Bryce Tyler logged assists.

Matt Kremin made four saves in net for the Windjammers and Aiden Starr nine stops in goal for the Panthers.

Camden Hills held a 13-4 edge in shots, while the opponents attempted two corner kicks.

Owre put Camden Hills on the board — and doubled the visitors' lead — with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes, off assists from Brown and Blackwell, with 35:50 and 32:58 remaining in the first half.

In the second half, the Windjammers essentially put the game out of reach when Tyler sent a ball into the box that was headed off the crossbar and into the net by Brown with 30:01 left in regulation.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Camden Hills (6-7, 47.5510 points) is ninth, while Lewiston (11-0-2, 177.0918 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Medomak Valley (5-6-2, 41.3776 points) is 14th, while Caribou (11-1-1, 140.3827 points) is first in the 21-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.
