Camden Hills Crew rows to solid season finale

Brunswick — The Maine Youth Rowing Association held its end-of-season regatta on Saturday, June 2 on the Androscoggin River and Camden Hills Crew enjoyed the experience and nailed down top places.

Maine youth rowing programs were invited to attend the event, sponsored by Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association.

Camden Hills Crew competed with teams from Waynflete, Merrymeeting, South Berwick, Megunticook Rowing and Yarmouth.

Camden Hills secured first-place finishes in multiple events.

The girls novice 4+ took first with a time of 8:06.3, followed by Megunticook, Yarmouth and Waynflete. The 4+ was rowed by Lily Wetherington, Audrey Bowman, Eleanor Greer and Iris Luce, with coxswain Katherine Bowen.

The boys 2x, with Zachary Markowitz and Trajan Gilson, rowed to first for their second straight year in the MYRA event with a time 6:36.5. The Camden Hills Crew duo edged second-place Brunswick-Merrymeeting with a time of 6:38.9.

Camden Hills also secured the third-place finish with novice doubles, as Michael McGeady and Owen Markowitz rowed in their first doubles event.

The Camden Hills Crew girls also entered a second novice four and claimed first among second boats in the category with a time of 8:21.7. The G2N4+ was rowed by Frances Ostensen, Jenna Stearns, Meghan Gallagher, Meredith Luce, and coxed by Katherine Bowen. Each rower in the event was in her first season with the club and with the sport of rowing.

The girls for Camden Hills also competed in a quad-race against one other crew from Brunswick and came out with the first in the 4x. Their time was 7:13.4. Scullers in this event included: Lily Wetherington, Audrey Bowman, Iris Luce and Eleanor Greer.

Camden Hills Crew was coached in the spring by Ryan Boutote and Jeff Foltz and the group rows from Bishopswood Camp in Hope on Megunticook Lake.
