Camden — The Camden High School Alumni Association held its 114th annual banquet at Point Lookout in Northport, Friday, Aug. 9. The 2019 CHS Alumni Recognition Awards were presented to two outstanding members of the alumni association: Sheila Hart McFarland and MSGT Frank R. Carr, USMC (ret.). Carr’s award was granted posthumously.

McFarland was honored in recognition of her significant contributions over many years as a director and treasurer of the CHS Alumni Association and support for the Class of 1963; her on-going support to Camden Area seniors and her continuing assistance to persons needing help in addressing health issues, making her an honored Class of 1963 CHS Alumna.

Carr's award, which was granted posthumously, was described as being made in “recognition of his military accomplishments as a decorated Marine and a Vietnam Veteran; his contributions to the Camden Area as a civic volunteer and leader for numerous community organizations and committees and for his support of veterans, making him a distinguished Class of 1961 CHS Alumnus.” The engraved plaque was presented to Rodney Lynch on behalf of the Camden American Legion War Memorial Post 30, where it will be put on permanent display at the Legion Post Home on John Street in recognition of Frank Carr’s long-time service as Post Commander.

To receive an award the nominee must be a graduate or attendee of Camden High School or of Camden-Rockport High School Classes of ’66, ’67 and ’68 and meet one or more of the following criteria: made a significant contribution to the CHS Alumni Association; made a significant contribution to the Greater Camden area or, whose activities, contributions and prominence outside of the Camden Area have brought recognition to the Greater Camden Area.
