Camden entrepreneur launches Kickstarter campaign

Camden — Brave, a breakfast food company whose co-founder is Camden resident, Des FitzGerald, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to promote what it calls a modern breakfast for busy humans.

“We searched far and wide for a breakfast that was quick to make, comprised of ‘whole’ foods and had the plant-based protein, fiber and healthy fats to keep us full until lunch. At first, all options required waking up at the crack of dawn and standing over the stove for 30 minutes, or left us starving again by 10 a.m. Either way, our time or our health was being compromised,” said co-founder Josh Leitson, from Portland. “Finally, I found a technique where you can actually make your breakfast the night before. All you had to do was add milk and let the mixture activate overnight in the fridge.”

From there, Brave added chia seeds, oats and hemp hearts as the base and nuts, dried fruit and spices for flavor. Each breakfast has 20 grams of plant-based protein and no added sugar. Brave’s hope is that the sense of calm and extra time in the morning will permeate their customers’ lives in beneficial ways.
