Camden — Blue Barren Distillery of Camden, has won two silver medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The awards went to Blue Barren's Harbor Gin and Blueberry Eau de Vie. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a global contest and gin was the largest category this year. Blue Barren's products were competing against gins from around the world.

Based steps from Camden Harbor, Blue Barren is a small distillery producing spirit in limited quantities, using local Maine produce in each batch.  In many cases, the distiller knows the field, forest or greenhouse that is the source of their ingredients.

"The San Francisco World Spirits competition is a blind taste testing from some of the world's true industry experts. To gain recognition here is thrilling for us and establishes the quality of our products. It is a wonderful boost as we grow our distillery,” said Andrew Stewart, co-founder of Blue Barren. “We started the distillery in response to the crisis in the Maine blueberry industry caused by rapid High-bush expansion in other parts of the world and it's amazing to bring Hope, Maine, blueberries to the global stage."
