Camden Classic Cup adds Youth Regatta

Jul 17, 2017

Camden — Come watch the area’s best junior sailors compete on 420s in the inaugural Camden Classics Cup Youth Regatta, Friday, July 28.

Hosted by the Camden Classics Cup, CCCYR is specifically for sailors aged 12-17. This special one-day race will be held just outside Camden Harbor. Forty-eight racers aboard 24 boats are expected.

“Having a youth sailing event tied in with the CCC will be a wonderful way to introduce youth sailors to skippers’ meetings and ratings discussions that they normally wouldn’t see. It’s also a way for the entire Midcoast area and the town of Camden to get more involved with sailing and on-water activities. I’m looking forward to seeing close to 50 kids attending our event!” said Drew Lyman, president of Lyman-Morse. Lyman-Morse is the presenting organization behind Camden Classics Cup.

There is no charge to participate in the CCCYR. French & Brawn is donating lunch for the youth racers. Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Magazine will provide awards. Youth racers will attend the CCC Skippers Meeting Friday morning and on Saturday they will have the opportunity to be invited aboard the classic boats for the 10 a.m. Parade of Sail in Camden Harbor as well as the possibility to race in Penobscot Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Participating sailing programs include Camden Area Youth Sailing Program (CAYSP); The Rockport Boat Club; The Apprenticeshop, Rockland; North Haven Casino; Castine Yacht Club; George Stevens Academy; Lincolnville Boat Club and Tarratine Yacht Club.
